Markets are opening with a cautiously constructive tone as investors lean on earnings quality and liquidity signals to navigate delayed data and rising cross-asset volatility. With labor reports postponed by a partial U.S. government shutdown, rates, FX, and commodities are playing an outsized role in shaping near-term risk appetite.

Markets are opening with a cautiously constructive tone as U.S. equity futures trend higher, led by Nasdaq-linked contracts and renewed confidence in AI-driven earnings. Premarket leadership is being shaped by standout results from Palantir Technologies, which surged double digits after strong Q4 results and forward guidance reinforced enterprise AI demand, alongside sharp gains in semiconductor-adjacent names such as Teradyne and Sandisk. Selectivity remains the dominant theme, however: Robinhood Markets and Walt Disney are under pressure on regulatory and execution concerns, while defensive names including Merck and PepsiCo are softer despite solid results. Rates remain orderly, with the U.S. 10-year Treasury (4.00% coupon) trading near 97.75 and yielding ~4.28%, anchoring financial conditions as attention shifts to today’s JOLTS release and front-end Treasury bill supply.

With key U.S. data constrained, cross-border and market-based signals are exerting greater influence on price discovery. Currency markets remain largely range-bound, with the euro near 1.1793, yen around 155.95, sterling near 1.3664, Swiss franc near 0.7781, and the Mexican peso holding near 17.3360, reinforcing Mexico’s role as the region’s primary FX barometer for U.S. growth expectations and carry dynamics. Globally, European equities are supported by firmer German retail sales, China’s January manufacturing data edged back into modest expansion amid targeted liquidity support, and attention in Asia remains on India’s Union Budget as a volatility catalyst. In energy markets, crude prices are steady yet volatile, with WTI near $62 and Brent around $66, as traders reassess reduced Middle East risk premiums while OPEC+ maintains current production levels.

The most amatic cross-asset move overnight is in precious metals, where COMEX gold is staging a powerful technical rebound. April futures have surged more than 5% toward the $4,900–$4,924 range, retracing part of a violent two-day selloff driven by margin calls and forced liquidation—an episode increasingly viewed as a volatility reset rather than a fundamental shift. Silver is rebounding even more aggressively, highlighting how quickly positioning can unwind in thin liquidity conditions. Crypto assets remain heavy and correlated with broader risk sentiment, with Bitcoin near $78,267 and Ethereum around $2,290, reinforcing a market that is selectively re-risking rather than embracing indiscriminate volatility.
